This is a Stencel ejection seat from a F-100D Super Sabre, made by North American Aviation. It was designed as an air superiority fighter (especially in the earlier models, which incidentally had different ejection seats), but the definitive D model saw lots of service in Vietnam as a fighter bomber. This particular seat is from tail number 53-3262 (pictured in the color photo), which was scrapped at Davis-Montham AFB in 1996. The seat was previously owned by the San Diego Air & Space Museum. The seat is in nice shape and is almost complete. It has a period olive green pad for the seat pan so that you can sit. In it, but to be accurate it should be replaced with a MD-1 seat parachute pack. BOGART, AERO MEDICAL LABORATORY, AUGUST 1958, pages 30-33, for complete details. The headrest cushion as shown on the seat is incorrect, but Ill include the correct cushion (seen in a pic) that you can restore (or use as-is) and install on the seat. All pyrotechnics have been removed, and the nylon strap that played out as the seat ejected (to prevent tumbling) has been removed, but you can see the stub of the strap on the bottom of the seat. The seat weighs 114 lbs so unfortunately too heavy to go by Greyhound bus.
