Commissioned by the Recruiting Publicity Bureau. This very rare poster is an ORIGINAL, printed in 1943-not a reproduction. Description: Blue, black and white illustrated print promoting the Airacobra fighter. On a background of blue sky and thin white clouds, an Airacobra with Army Air Forces insignia is seen from below with guns firing. In the background, a German plane is pointed toward the ground, leaving a smoke trail. At lower right, U. ARMY and an insignia in white. A stamp at the lower right is within the white margin. Tall x 30-3/4 in. Posters during World War II were designed to instill in the people a positive outlook, a sense of patriotism and confidence. They linked the war in trenches with the war at home. From a practical point, they were used to encourage all Americans to help with the war effort. The posters called upon every man, woman, and child to endure the personal sacrifice and domestic adjustments to further the national agenda. They encouraged rationing, conservation and sacrifice. In addition, the posters were used for recruitment, productivity, and motivation as well as for financing the war effort. The stark, colorful graphic designs elicited strong emotions. DESCRIPTION: This is a factory built desk model of the U. Air Force Bell X-1A from the early 1950s. The name plate on the stand base is marked BELL X-1A THE WORLD’S FASTEST AND HIGHEST FLYING AIRPLANE DESIGNED AND BUILT FOR THE U. AIR FORCE BY BELL Aircraft CORP. It may have been made by Topping, but it is not marked. This plane came out of the estate of an 101 year old retired Wright Patterson Air Force Base officer. MATERIALS: Plastic plane with wood and clear plastic Lucite? DIMENSIONS: Measures about 10-½ inches long, and has about an 8-3/8 inch wingspan. CONDITION: Overall in VERY GOOD CONDITION. It has a little dirt on it from long term storage. In my opinion, the rear wings have an old glue repair where they attach to the plane. The sharp pin in the plane fuselage is solid, but fits a bit loosely in the hole of the stand support arm. This is a great old factory built model of a famous plane from the early 1950s. It will be a nice addition to your desk model military plane collection. ALWAYS CHECK MY LISTINGS FOR OTHER INTERESTING ITEMS!
