1957, original large six-sheet, 81″ x 81″. Original, rare item from an important movie: The authentic portrayal of capabilities, flight operations, and cockpit procedures. A look into strategic military aviation during the Cold War. Storyline included the Boeing KC-97 Stratofreighter aerial refueling tanker. Stored folded as issued. Exceptionally well-preserved example of a rare and desirable Cold War aviation item. Typically, these were assembled at the theatre with cheap tape. This one is as issued. For display purposes, some collectors will attach the panels with a strip of archival, removeable mending tissue such as Lineco, readily available from Amazon; a reversable procedure that will stabilize the item without damage. It is an original jacket used in the 1980s by a pilot stationed in Torrejon AFB in Spain. The chest patch represents the U. Air Force in Europe, the patch on the left shoulder represents the 612Th, 613Th, and 614Th Tactical Fighter Squadrons, and the patch on the right shoulder represents the 401Th Tactical Fighter Wing under which the 3 squadrons operate. World War 2 aircraft escape axe as issued by the Royal Air Force to the crews of heavy bombers and gliders. In very good condition, the rubber insulation on the handle is still. Intact and marked Tested 15000 Volts on one side and Patent No 515767 on the other. The head is marked “ELWELL 1944 27N/1″ along with the British Government Broad Arrow. Length is 15 1/2″, Maximum width across the head is 8″ and maximum thickness is 1 1/4. 550mm x 200mm x 32mm, 1079g. This is really a potential museum grade item. A similar axe was shown on BBC TV”Antiques Roadshow” on Sunday 17th January 2021 and was stated to be rare and as issued for use in heavy bombers such as the Lancaster & Halifax and also in gliders. US Army Air Forces B-17 bomber pilots and air crewmen early in WW2 were issued the classic B-3 sheepskin leather flight jacket to protect against frigid temperatures at high altitudes.
