On June 24, 1994 at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington, a Boeing B-52H Stratofortress stalled midair, fell to the ground and exploded, killing the pilot Arthur “Bud” Holland, and three other crew members. The crash was caught on film and was shown repeatedly on news channels around the world. The cause of the crash was pilot error. The pilot, who had several previous similar incidents, maneuvered the plane beyond its capabilities, disregarding safety procedures, which resulted in this horrific tragedy. The base of this lamp was made using engine pieces from the wreckage. I acquired it from an estate sale consisting of an extensive collection of Air Force and Navy memorabilia. When I saw the picture online I was amazed at exactly what I was looking at. When I brought it home, sat and looked at it in person, I was overwhelmed with what this tragic piece of history represented. This is a special piece, and should go to someone who can appreciate all it stands for: The lives of Mark McGeehan, Robert Wolff, and Ken Huston. There is a shade included, shown in the images. I included it but did not add any cost for it. I also added a nice finial of an Eagle, which I’ll include with or without the shade.
