Offered here is a dated, march 1951, USAF pilots crusher cap, as worn in active service. It belonged to Major Henry R. He served as a pilot in WW2 through Vietnam. I’ve included a brief bio about him and his service. I have his WW2 cap and his luggage I will be listing separately. I found this stuff in the attic of his house when they settled his estate. It is Size 7 1/8.

This is an incredibly rare United States Air Force zippo lighter – from my research the zippo dates from 1947 – 1949 but has Vietnam Era engravings that are dated 1961 – 1962. This zippo has extremely rare original engravings that relate to Hickam and Pearl Harbor – rarely seen on Vietnam era zippos. This fantastic zippo is also personalised – It belonged to Ronnie A Guidry (from San Antonio, Texas – with his military number on the reverse). I have included more information about the original owner at the end of the description. In a used condition with lots of wear. But has a really desirable look. Cam spring is a bit sticky. The hinge is very loose. The zippo has its original insert which is in working order. Overall an extremely rare zippo with lots of historical and social significance. This is the original M1 helmet of Colonel Joseph Triner who served as the Chemical Officer of the Ninth Air Force during WW2 in North Africa and Europe. The photos speak for themselves for the originality and condition. Front seam stainless steel rim with heat stamp 103A and first pattern strap loops. It has fixed bale with rayon webbed and name inscribed Westinghouse liner and permanent attached leather chinstrap with square buckle. Liner is marked for Lt Col Joseph Triner and certainly was worn while in North Africa, Cairo Egypt and Europe when he received his promotion to Colonel. Brief biography of Colonel Joseph Triner: Joseph Triner (son of Joseph Triner and Katerina Ann Wecker) was born Feb 1894 in Illinois, and died Feb 1969 in Oak Park, Cook, Illinois, United States of America. He married Mae on Abt. One of the acknowledged and most active leaders among the Czechoslovaks of the City of Chicago, Joseph Triner was born in the old Pilsen district October 19, 1894. He graduated the Carter H. Harrison Technical High School, and later graduated from the Columbia University as a pharmaceutical chemist. Triner left the Columbia University on the 7th day of April, 1917, to enlist in the United States, Army. He was commissioned Sergeant, Medical Corps, and remained stationed at Fort Sheridan until June 1917, when he was transferred to the Military Intelligence Service, Chicago. Upon the insistence of the Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, Mr. Triner was honorably discharged September 4, 1917 from the United States Army, and his discharge papers read: By order of the Secretary of War for the convenience of the Government in order to serve with the United States Secret Service. Penning, a Silver Star, Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross recipient. The uniform itself is in great shape. A few small moth nips here and there, but it displays wonderfully. The wings are pin back and marked Sterling for Sterling silver. The ribbon bar is a clutch back type, but missing his silver stat ribbon. There was a silver star ribbon in the pocket when I got it, so I took that to mean he simply never got a chance to add it to his ribbon bar. The only significant damage that I can find is the right hand U. Collar brace is missing its second clutch. I tried to show this in the picture, but it appears someone repainted this at some point, but replacing the clutch with a hook of some sort. It is not noticeable when on display, but I thought it was worth mentioning. The belt is also missing from the uniform, sadly. Once again, it would appear he did not get a chance to sew these on. Pennings name does not appear in the uniform anywhere, but as the article was with it when I found it, I find it hard to believe its anyone elses. The article states that Penning was a flight commander, flying Thunderbolts with the 9th Air Force Fighter-Bomber Group. The article mentions that his thunderbolt was dubbed Mary Fay III after his wife. Not sure why the III is at the end, perhaps he had multiple aircraft throughout his service. The article also states he received the Purple Heart, Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Medal with 15 Oak Leaf Clusters. Fair to say, this man saw some combat. This is a really phenomenal uniform and would make a great addition to any collection. It has held a special place in mine for many years and I hope it will find a place in someone yours. Belonged to a 2nd lieutenant Max Wheeler of the 22nd bombardment group of the 5th Air Force. Included is what I assume to be an Australian battle dress uniform with Air corp insignia and embroidered navigator wings. Uniform is marked with a laundry mark and there are a couple spots that were blacked out previous owners? From a local estate, here is an identified WW2 8TH AIR FORCE AIR GUNNER’S A2 FLIGHT JACKET, FLIGHT HELMETS, GOGGLES, EAR PHONES, PATCHES, PHOTOGRAPH (AUTOGRAPHED) AND MORE. A2 is hand painted and includes over 30 mission bombs with names of target and plane’s name. Has unit patch painted on the front and size is 36. Zipper works and leather is pliable, but cuffs are gone to time and some of the painting has light flaking. Goggles have one crack eye piece and helmet shows some wear. Studio picture has man’s autograph and is in excellent condition. 8th AF patch is embroidered on felt and appears to be English manufactured. Man served post WW2 and has ribbons for service and mini medals made major rank post war. Has Air Crew and Air Gunner wings (same air crew wing as in photo). Found at an estate in Northern Kentucky last week , is a grouping of original WWII 15th USAF Jackets etc.. Charles Kuhn Is marked on the A-2 leather Jacket (Tag missing). Plus there is what appears to be a B 10 jacket, Shirt and Eisenhower Jacket size 36.. I like the addition of the Keesler Field Pennant showing where he trained.. I have taken several pictures showing the condition of the group. You will see a few tears.. Everything is 100% original and has not seen light in over 70 years..
