USAF Air Force Yearbook at RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath 1953 England 3910th
This Yearbook covers the activities and personnel of the 3910th Air Base Group, as well as the 3912, 3913, 3934, and 3972 at RAF Mildenhall. It also covers the 60th AAA Bn at RAF Lakenheath. The book is 122 pages and measures approx 9.25 in x 12.25 in. It is in very good overall condition with no tears or missing pages. The boards are solid with mildly bumped corners. The pages are still bright and white, with only minimal yellowing along the borders. The 3910th Air Base Group (ABG) Bomb is a strategic air command unit that was activated on July 11, 1950 at RAF Mildenhall. The 7511th ABG was the first unit to use Mildenhall to prepare the facility for use by SAC aircraft. In 1951, the Strategic Air Command established the 3910 ABG to take over the responsibilities of the 7511 ABG. RAF Mildenhall was established in 1930 and officially opened on October 16, 1934 as one of the RAF’s largest bomber stations. The base’s original name was RAF Beck Row, but it was changed to RAF Station Mildenhall in 1933. The US Air Force has been based at the base since 1950. In 2022, the US Air Force announced that RAF Mildenhall would not be closing. The base is home to the 352 Special Operations Wing and the 488th Intelligence Squadron. The 352 Special Operations Wing operates the CV-22B Osprey and MC-130J Commando II aircraft. The 488th Intelligence Squadron operates the RC-135 Rivet Joint reconnaissance aircraft. The 60th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion was inactivated on June 17, 1957 in Southampton, England. The 60th was originally the 60th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, which was redesignated as the 60th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion Automatic Weapons Battalion, Mobile in 1949. In 1950, it became the 60th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion. RAF Lakenheath is the largest US Air Force-operated base in England. Despite being an RAF station, Lakenheath currently only hosts United States Air Force (USAF) units and military personnel. The host wing is the 48th Fighter Wing (48 FW), also known as the Liberty Wing, assigned to United States Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa (USAFE-AFAFRICA). The wing operates the F-15E Strike Eagle and the F-35A Lightning II.
