This is a large cool, bizarre and completely unique grouping of militaria related to Captain Robert G. Bensing of the USAF during the Post WWII- could War years. During WWII Bensing was a B-17 “Flying Fortress” Pilot in the 385th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force in late 1944 and early 1945. After the war Bensing became some kind of important USAF Engineer specializing in the construction of Air Fields. This large group, half a storage tub worth of materials, tells that story. Bensing spent a lot of time in Taiwan, in the 1960s, working with the Chinese-American Combined Service Forces. Hundreds of Photographs small ones of people and places and dozens of 8×10 showing the construction of air fields? Original Metal Plaque dedicated to Bensing for “With Remeberance for a Job Well Done” presented to Bensing by a Colonel named S. A pile of leather name patches, uniform patches and pins – some very unusual. Framed certificate from “The Society of Bushed Engineers” dated 1953. 5 undeveloped Film rolls and a few loose negatives. Absolutely unique Box containing wall Plaque, with Chinese writing, a pair of cufflinks and a pin. Inside the box is a note card labeled Presentation From Combined Service Forces Republic of China. 1943 Squadron Photo 44-c. Taken in Ontario California, Cal Aero. Large photos, presumably Bensing in training and the only wwii item included in the otherwise post wwii group. Please ask any questions. Cold War USAF 10th Recon. Tech. Sq. Lithophane German Stein Spangdahlem Air Base

Spangdahlem was built in 1951 in response to rising tensions in the Cold War, with the help of France since the area of the base was in French territory. The stein is named to Nicholas S. Albano and reads: 10th RECONNAISSANCE TECHNICAL SQUADRON SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE GERMANY 1955 1958. During this time the 10th completed many recon missions, the squadron operated the Lockheed Shooting Star by day and the Douglas Invader by night. In 1954 the Martin RB-57A replaced the Douglas RB-26 and Republic Aviation RF-84-F Thunderjets replaced the Lockheed RF-80. Each side of the stein features hand painted detail, insignia and a map of Germany pinpointing the location of the airbase. The lid of the stein features wonderfully detailed Douglas RB-66 Destroyer Jet, and eagle perched on a US Shield. The base of the stein is lithophane and features the outline of a shapely woman when held up to the light (see photo). VINTAGE: Circa 1955 – 1958. SIZE: Approximately 9 tall x 3 diameter at top; base: 4 7/8 in diameter. CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS: Hand painted porcelain, lithophane, pewter. MARKINGS: SCHMIDT KOBLENZ BOGENSTR 103. This is a original Cold War and later USAF USN USMC Jet fighter pilot’s Flight Helmet Type HGU-33/P with Black reflective tape. The tape job on this helmet is excellent. When a light shines on this helmet it turns white in the reflection. The helmet comes complete with earphones, wiring and a clear visor. It also has the brackets to mount an oxygen mask. It has a form fit leather lining. It is a size medium. The helmet is 12 x 12 x 12 inches. The Styrofoam head is not included.
