Listed is an original vintage USAF (United States Air Force) Standard Issue Field Jacket, 9 oz cotton sateen, Type MIL-J-4883A, in a size Small (Short), Stock no. The Black jacket label with gold lettering is an indicator of an older style military jacket, and this one is no exception (circa late 1950s to early 1960s) only to be replaced by the ever popular M-65 in 1965. As photos suggest, the jacket is in a very good wearable condition given its age, with minor wear and faint yellowing/discolouring to the area around the cuffs and base of jacket. All in all, a very nice specimen for the avid military fatigue/jacket enthusiast/collector. Cotton Sateen, cotton lined. Colour – sage green, USAF shade 509. Hidden Hood tucks into the zippered collar closing, when not needed. Button Front, neck to waist. Lining for additional comfort and warmth. Draw strings for a firmer fit at waist and hood. The John Ownbey Companys birth is acompelling history of the dawn of military contract manufacturing in the UnitedStates. It all starts with the Godfather of military manufacturing in the1940s and 50s, Herman Breezy Wynn. Herman Wynn was educated at the Universityof Tennessee, where he was a star fullback for the Volunteers. Aftergraduation, he opened an athletic equipment company, The Southern AthleticCompany. They were primarily involved in developing and manufacturing a new, lighter type of sports apparel. He eventually grew his athletics company into amanufacturing giant. One of his many manufacturing plants was located inKnoxville, TN. When World War II began, Wynn turned hisboundless energy and jacket making skills to manufacturing for the war effort. He produced duffle bags, jackets, and winter coats etc. When the war was overhe scaled back manufacturing for the army and went back primarily to producingcommercial apparel. Due to Wynns operational size, he had plenty ofmanufacturing room to lease out to other apparel companies. This is how theWynn Confederation was created. Other Wynn Confederation companies included most ofthe government manufacturers, including Alpha Industries, Wynn Industries, Greenbrier, Dobbs etc. The WynnConfederation was solely responsible in helping many of the dominating militarymanufacturers get their start, back in the day. To this day, the John Ownbey Company Inc is an existing member company of the Wynn Confederation, who represent a group of military subcontractors who collectively produced for the U. S Government on military clothing contracts. Signature on deliver required. Express post is available (additional charges apply).
