Old dry cleaning label , hand stitched in red cotton worn remaining letters ” R H “. This tunic has areas of moth nip damage. # cap with leather chin strap , black cloth covered buttons each side with two vents , green under peak. Maker VERO & CO LONDON inside leather has front khaki velvet sweat band section. Cap badge on band with metal gilt eagle within bullion wreath and kings crown. # battle dress with heavily worn [due to parachute harness] padded pilots wing. F/LT rank insignia , hand stitched in red cotton worn remaining letters ” R B “. Label heading air crew blouse size 8 commercial mnfg co 1943 /I\. Has small piece of cloth held on with alloy reads K3. Has dry cleaners label stapled in with A1 on. Has no pocket buttons and 2nd button down missing , non brass buckle. # trousers, full length have 8 painted on waist band aircrew headed label size 8 by HART & LEVY LTD 1943 /I\. Has dry cleaners label stapled in with A1 on has no button on back pocket. There is moth damage to the tunic the battledress and trousers and cap fine. All are salty and have been well used in war. The buttons which are lost [flat tin type] must have happened in service as these items have remained totally untouched in a loft since the wars end , i have in the past seen buttons removed on purpose from uniforms so the owner can get in and out of pockets easier i would not touch or replace them. Displays well if you want a nice well used original untouched RAF PILOTS war service uniform grouping this is it. I was told the following / all what was known remembered of former pilot he was ROBERT HENRY BROOKES CLARKE. In the war he had trained in RHODESIA , first started flying sunderlands out of scotland , he was latter shot down once , he went on to fly, flying sword fish torpedo planes in the Mediterranean , and always stated the best thing he did in the war was brought pows and servicemen safety home.
