Air Forces in Europe Wool Varsity type Jacket. 1959 USAFE Swimming & Diving Championship award Jacket, from Torrejon Air Base in Madrid, Spain. Royal Blue, wool Letter Jacket with button-snap front & lower pockets. Large,’R’ chenille Letter patch at left chest. Diver’ patch & USAFE shield patch at right chest. (see close-ups) Back of Jacket, has a Great round chain-stitch patch (pictured) Quilted, satiny striped inner lining in Great condition. Tag Reads: “Unisport, Universal Sports Corporation”. Displayed is a guaranteed original period painted U. Army Air Forces in Europe M1 Fixed Bail Helmet with chinstrap extension. You won’t see another like this any time soon. I tried to find reference to this on the web with next to nothing for results telling me it’s ultra rare. You’ll find several Infantry Unit marked Helmets, Medic Helmets, and various other oddball pots all over the place in conditions ranging from very good to very poor, but this one being in super condition and such a rare painted AAF marking is not something you’ll see as frequently. Stress crack free, nice cork texture, paint has the perfect even honest patina, the photos say it all. The item “WW2 U. S. ALL AS AWARDED TO SGT-AIR GUNNER / PILOT OFFICER ERIC BLANTON OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE & COMPLETE WITH THE RECIPIENTS CERTIFICATE OF SERVICE, PORTRAIT PHOTGRAPH IN UNIFORM, ASSORTED SNAP SHOT PHOTOGRAPHS AND RELATED NEWPAPER CLIPPINGS & PHOTOS. BLANTON JOINED THE RCAF IN CANADA IN OCTOBER OF 1942 AND SERVED OVERSEAS IN THE UK FROM JULY 1943 TO DECEMBER 1944. HE SERVED IN THE RANKS FROM OCTOBER 1942 TO MAY 1944 WHEN HE WAS COMMISSIONED AS A PILOT OFFICER. HE WAS A NATIVE OF TORONTO AND MARRIED AN ENGLISH GIRL WHO WAS IN THE W. HE SERVED AS A AIRGUNNER AND WAS INVOLVED IN THE BOMBING RAID ON LE MANS 13TH & 14TH MARCH 1944 AS PART OF NO-6 GROUP RCAF. THE MEDALS ARE SWING MOUNTED AS WORN AND IS COMMON WITH MODERN CANADIAN GROUPS. THE STARS HAVE BEEN GOLD PLATED / GILDED AND THE SILVER MEDALS HAVE BEEN CHROME / RHODIUM PLATED.
