DESCRIPTION: This is a factory built desk model of the U. Air Force Bell X-1A from the early 1950s. The name plate on the stand base is marked BELL X-1A THE WORLD’S FASTEST AND HIGHEST FLYING AIRPLANE DESIGNED AND BUILT FOR THE U. AIR FORCE BY BELL Aircraft CORP. It may have been made by Topping, but it is not marked. This plane came out of the estate of an 101 year old retired Wright Patterson Air Force Base officer. MATERIALS: Plastic plane with wood and clear plastic Lucite? DIMENSIONS: Measures about 10-½ inches long, and has about an 8-3/8 inch wingspan. CONDITION: Overall in VERY GOOD CONDITION. It has a little dirt on it from long term storage. In my opinion, the rear wings have an old glue repair where they attach to the plane. The sharp pin in the plane fuselage is solid, but fits a bit loosely in the hole of the stand support arm. This is a great old factory built model of a famous plane from the early 1950s.
