I bought this helmet with external wired Type G oxygen mask which was in very bad condition, so I changed plastic face mask part which I have partly restored with an original mic and straps. Port side rubber ear cup is in a good condition, but starboard side rubber ear cup had some heath damages, but anyway it was still a complete one which I restored as well. I have not tried open leather straps because most probably studs may come off. Starboard side rear strap seems to be stiched at some point. I add one leather cover for interior strap stud which was missing in lining. I will included Mark VIII goggles which I restored too stitching glasses back with leathers. This helmet has most probably seen action in 1943 in Malta. After all a very interesting combat worn Mediterranean theatre Royal Air Force used tropical flying helmet with an unique art work and period time made field modification (missing neck flap). I googled at least four different Spitfires with “Saint” emblem a few years ago. Jack Hughes RCAF (249 Sqn) operating from Ta Qali airfield, Malta in 1943.
