Chenille patches are among the most coveted by collectors. The 533rd Squadron of the 381st Bomb Group flew B-17 Flying Fortresses from Ridgewell, Essex between June 1943 and April 1945. The Group was awarded two Distinguished Unit Citations, the first for bombing shipyards at Bremen, whilst under heavy attack, on 8 October 1943 and the second was awarded to the 1st Bomb Division as a whole for flying without fighter protection to bomb aircraft factories at Oschersleben on 11 January 1944. Korean War Usaf N-2a Flying Jacket

Offered here is this USAF N-2A HEAVY ATTACHED HOOD FLYING JACKET. This example is the second model of the N-2 series. This jacket was made by C. MASLAND & SONS, under contract A. Adopted in the early 1950s, as the name on the label says, Flying-Jacket-Heavy Attached Hood, it has a large hood for the cold weather. When worn on the plane, this hood could be hung on the back, there is a zipper which effectively divides the hood, allowing the parachute harness to fit easily and the helmet to be worn without restricting movement. This heavy-zone flight jacket was mainly worn by the crew of bombers and reconnaissance planes, designed for the freezing temperatures of the Korean winter. The condition of this example is amazing considering its almost 70 years old, the blue shell is intact and no UV fading, which is very rare. The genuine wolf fur is mint, the knit cuffs and waistband look unworn with a couple tiny moth holes here and there, not even visible when in use. All zippers and snaps work and look perfect without any sign of rust, all buttons present and looking new. Dry cleaning is always suggested. This jacket has been stored for the last 60 years, so there is some dust, in any case it probably has never been worn. Left shoulder depicts a color printed U. AIR FORCE logo in great shape retaining its original colors. Jackets in this condition are extremely hard to find nowadays. Offered here is this superb USAF grouping. MIL J 6279C (USAF). The Jacket is in pristine condition, original zippers working perfectly without any signs of rust. Label reads size LARGE. USAF logos looking NEW. GENUINE FOX FUR in PRISTINE CONDITION! Outer shell is in SUPERB condition, only a dirty spot on the upper back, I guess It can be removed with dry clean. Jackets in this condition are quite rare to find. All ZIPPERS WORKING PERFECTLY, no rips or discolorations, but it needs a dry clean, it has been stored for a couple decades. Label reads SIZE 30. Howard Keith Burney who was a B17 bomber pilot in late WWII with the 97th Bomb Group. The sale was here in Lincoln, but the history I have on the vet shows that he was from Harington NE and served in the USAAF from Feb 8, 1944 – May 18, 1947. According to the pages he marked in the unit history (Pg 210-224) he flew 19 missions before he was injured on Feb. 27, 1945 by flak that shattered the plexiglass windshield of his aircraft. The unit history describes the mission where he received his wounds, but I was not able to find a mission for the SS medal. According to this hero’s obituary, he passed away in 2005. Included in this grouping.. WWII Officers chocolate brown jacket w/ a standard cut-edge AAF patch & 2 overseas bars on the left sleeve, US & wing/prop officer collar insignia (flat clutch holders), Capitan shoulder insignia (pin-back / snowflake pattern), “Sterling Silver” marked pilot wings (pin-back), 3 place ribbon bar (pin-back) w/ ETO (2 battle stars), WWII Victory, Occupation ribbons, 3 place ribbon bar (pin-back) w/ SS, PH (oak leaf), & Air Medal (oak leaf) ribbons. The jacket is in good displayable condition with a bit of fraying to the officers cuff braid and a few small holes and wear near the bottom. The vets name is also sewn inside his jacket! WWII tan officers shirt that is in very good condition with some minor stains, holes and wear (see photos). The shirt has a tag that says it is 100% wool and “Dry Clean Only”. WWII tan overseas cap w/ officers black and gold piping. Original WWII 8×10 photo of the vet in uniform in a newer picture frame for protection. Burney marked the missions he flew starting on Pg. 97th Bomb Group Christmas postcard from a buddy (Del Markle) talks about “flying missions in our Flying Fortress”. Several smaller WWII photos of his buddies in uniform. One photo is of General Arnold awarding Air Medals to the vets. WWII Complete Air Medal in original coffin case with medal, ribbon and lapel pin. (Medal and ribbon are pin-back). WWII belt buckle with officers insignia. (Marked “Nickel Silver Top”). Homefront rhinestone American Flag pin, ETO ribbon, Ruptured Duck lapel pin, Wing/Prop Sweetheart pin, and two items found in the vets jacket pocket… A torn paper with his name dated 1944, and a very old unused rubber LOL!
