EXTREMELY RARE, ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC US NAVY PATCH. The previous owner, a retired Navy officer and former Chief of Naval Reserve, later worked at Lockheed and other aircraft manufacturers. He played a role in the development of the F-22 and other aircraft. He was a passionate collector, particularly of patches related to the projects and groups he was involved with. This ensures that his patch collection, acquired during his years of service, is authentic and not recent reproductions. This unique patch commemorates the coordinated attack in 1986 by the US Navy’s A-6 Intruder and A-7 Corsair, along with the US Air Force’s F-111 Aardvark, on Libyan bases. The patch features the phrase “PAYBACK IS A BITCH” at the top, aircraft designators at the bottom, and illustrates the coordinated effort of these aircraft. The F-111s flew 3,500 miles to deliver their ordnance. The Intruders/Corsairs launched from their carrier in the Mediterranean Sea. The patch has a “thin plastic over very tight cheesecloth” backing. It has a “merrowed black” border and a “light blue twill background”. No Velcro on the back. Dimensions are shown in the photos (the ruler on the right is 6). This patch is part of the finest Intruder patch collection I’ve ever seen. It comes from a retired US Navy Captain’s collection, which I recently acquired. This is an original, one-of-a-kind item, so don’t miss your chance to own this piece of history. Embark on a journey into military history with the original USAF US Air Force 18th Detachment 1st Weather Wing patch. This authentic piece of militaria is a testament to the rich tradition of the Air Force and is sure to be a prized addition to any collection. This patch showcases the unique Theatre Made distinctions that are sought after by collectors worldwide. While its country of manufacture remains a mystery, possibly Japanese made as the unit was stationed there for a while, the patch’s character and heritage are unquestionable, making it a must-have for enthusiasts of military memorabilia. This patch has some amazing detail in the tiger’s embroidery. I have not come across another patch for this unit.
A nice, original “Restricted Area” sign from the Portland Air National Guard Base outside of Portland, Oregon. The bottom of the sign references Section 21 of the Internal Security Act of 1950, thus probably placing it in the Vietnam War era or thereabouts. The sign is from from stout sheet aluminum, measuring 9 inches by 18 inches, with two mounting holes. The facing side of the sign is painted white with blue and red lettering. Overall condition is very good or better, with 95% of original finish still intact. There are some surface scratches, but nothing really detracting from the overall presentation. This would look great on display in a collection of vintage Air Force or US military signage. Failing to make an effort to work out a solution is a poor reflection on the customer and justification for refusal to do business with you again. All items in my auctions are described accurately and honestly to the best of my knowledge and are believed to be genuine unless specifically stated otherwise. Contact me if you have further questions, but please be polite and articulate if you want an answer. Thanks for looking and best of luck!
