This set includes a U. Air Force P-1 modified P-4A flight helmet, A-14B oxygen mask, and helmet bag. Air Force introduced FRP hard-shell flight helmets with the P-1 in the early 1950s, followed by the P-2 in the mid-1950s, and in the mid-1950s, a movable visor was attached to the shell in place of the goggles that had been used with the helmet. This was the P-3. In the late 1950s, the new P-4 was introduced, and as the early P-1 and P-2 models became obsolete, the visor mechanism and headset receiver were modified by the military to the latest P-4A specifications. That is the specification of the helmet presented here. The distinguishing point of the modified version is that the AF decal on the front of the hard shell overlaps the rail of the visor mechanism, while the one produced as P-4A from the beginning has the AF decal moved to the side of the head. The inner harness is not marked with the model name, but is a replacement harness for modification. While the outer shell has some paint peeling and scratches, the inner harness, ear receivers, and oxygen mask clip tabs are in brand new condition with almost no signs of use. However, all of the tags, including the original tag, which should have been attached to the inside of the shell to indicate modified, are missing. The oxygen mask is an A-14, which was used from World War II, but the one combined with this piece is an improved A-14B produced at the end of the 1950s, which is also correct for the era. Damage includes the aforementioned paint peeling and scratches on the shell exterior, as well as the loss of one of the right side screws used to secure the visor to the frame, but this does not cause the visor to rattle. This is a rare authorized modification. The P-4A with a clean interior, almost unused after the modification, is a rarity. Also included is a helmet bag from the same era. This helmet bag is also rare. The mannequin head in the photo is for photo shooting and is not included in the product. We take note of serial numbers and images of evidence to prevent substitution. WW2 USAAF TSgt 15th Air Force Theater Modified Khaki Uniform Group Complete. 1 Jacket/Shirt: The jacket/shirt is a nicely tailor modified EM khaki two pocket shirt into a shortened Ike jacket configuration. It is nicely done and reinforced on the back. The jacket is in good condition with some small pin point sized “ink” spots on the right pocket and a small stain next to the 4th button hole. The shirt has button closure down the front and double button closure on the bottom. There is an Italian made silk embroidered on dark blue twill 15th Air Force patch sewn on the upper left sleeve.. The patch is sound but is slightly faded from use. There is a nice detailed sterling pair of 3″ pin back Air Crew wings above the left pocket that are marked “Sterling on the back. The ribbon bar is pin back. The shirt comes with a khaki cotton neck tie. 2 Trousers: The trousers are a standard pair of Army khaki cotton trousers. There is a faded stamp inside that looks like Waist 31 Inseam 29. The trousers have double back pockets and a button fly. They have been used and worn but are in good clean condition. The trousers are tagged but the tag is too washed out to read. 3 Garrison Cap: The enlisted garrison cap is made of khaki cotton and has gold and blue USAAF braided piping on it. The cap has a fabric sweatband. There is no size that I can find. The cap has been used but is in good condition. There is a clip back EM wing/prop disc on the left side of the cap with smooth faced clips. All in all, a very nice complete theater modified jacket/shirt U. Army Air Corps uniform group. Sperry S-1 M-2 Bombsights pop up from time to time, but this one has not been modified to the M-2 designation, which makes this an extremely rare piece. This sight is in excellent condition, but does show age. The sight is very well marked. The rubber eye cup is missing! Obviously, the bombsight has not been tested by me. You are looking at an amazing RARE original 1940’s WW2 era US Army Air Force Type B-15A Modified flight jacket with original Talon zipper, elasticated wool ribbing and alpaca lining. It is in great condition for it’s age with just some minor staining to the shell but no damage what-so-ever. There is evidence of moth damage to all the ribbing and although this hasn’t structurally compromised it i would suggest that repairs or replacements might be required. The zip works fine and the lining is nice and clean. The army air force insigne is still very clear on the arm and on the wind flap. Please see all images. The label reads Size 38. Please be guided by the exterior measurements. 22 pit to pit. 23 1/2 nape of collar to hem. 18 shoulder to shoulder. 25 1/2 shoulder to cuff. 19 1/4 pit to cuff. Original and scarce US Air Force / USAF blue B-15C Mod. Korean War era pilot jacket. The heavy duty Talon zipper is in good working condition. The leather pull tab is missing. A few white stains on the front and back, most are visible on the detailed pictures. 1 repair on the front right side of the chest. Some wear and tears on the wool cuffs and waist band.
