Manufactured by Rough Wear, contract number 27752. The jacket belonged to Major Vernon Charles Kitzrow (1922 Kenosha, WI – 2007 Clive, Iowa). He served in the 398th Bombardment Group 603rd Bomb Squadron, which was under the 8th Army Air Force. The 398th Bomb Group flew B-17 Flying Fortresses from Nuthampstead, Hertfordshire on strategic bombing raids over Germany. The Group switched focus in the days before D-Day, when they targeted enemy positions on the Cherbourg peninsula. Jacket features 603rd Squadron insignia patch of Disney’s Peg Leg Pete. Also features 398th insignia patch and 8th Army Air Force patch. Jacket was acquired directly from his brother’s estate. I believe the patches were applied by the veteran post war. Included with the jacket is a copy of a photo of Vern wearing this jacket. Also included is his dress shirt. Good overall condition, leather has some wear in sleeves and worn stitching in shoulders, liner has a few worn spots. Jacket is a size 46.
