Century Wings 172 A-7D Corsair II USAF 23rd TFW, 75th TFS Tiger Sharks
Century Wings 1:72 Wings of Heroes 001632 Vought A-7D Corsair II Diecast Model USAF 23rd TFW, 75th TFS Tiger Sharks, #72-0218, England AFB, LA, 1981. Limited Edition 1000 Pieces Worldwide. Vought A-7D Corsair II. The 75th Fighter Squadron was one of the original squadrons in the 23rd Fighter Group when it took over operations of the 1st American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers) in China during World War II. Following World War II, the 75th was activated at various times and locations throughout the world. In July 1972, the 75th rejoined its sister squadrons for the first time since 1949 when the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing was activated at England Air Force Base LA. The 75th began operations flying the A-7 Corsair II in 1972 taking part in a variety of operational exercises both in the United States and overseas, including tactical bombing competitions against the Royal Air Force at RAF Lossiemouth, Scotland, during October 1977 and July 1978. The squadron eventually transitioned into the A-10 Thunderbolt II in the summer of 1981. Designed as a longer-range, higher-payload replacement for the A-4 Skyhawk, the A-7 Corsair II was first flown on September 27th, 1965. This aircraft entered service during the Vietnam war and later became one of only a few US Navy aircraft to serve with the US Air Force. It possessed cutting edge technologies; it was one of the first aircraft to use a turbofan engine, an internal navigation system and a “head-up” display. Late in its career, A-7s were used for pilot training and were parked outside of hangars in order to draw the attention of Soviet spy satellites away from the fledgling F-117. Century Wings’ 1:72 scale A-7 series includes the Navy A-7E and the Air Force A-7D. The most notable features of this model are its large and cavernous chin scoop and engine exhaust detail at the rear. The canopy is hinged and locks against the tinted bulletproof windscreen, and a pair of a non-breakable rubberized pitot tubes are installed just below. The cockpit interior is packed with more instrumentation and switch detail than just about any other model in 1:72 scale. A complete set of ordnance mounts to the keyed wing pylons and snaps in place for easy reconfiguration. The solid metal horizontal stabilizers are movable and rotate in unison. Century Wings 1:72 Wings of Heroes. The Century Wings “1:72 Wings of Heroes” range presents highly-detailed, ready-made diecast models of military aircraft. Century Wings 1:72 diecast airplanes feature. Diecast metal construction with some plastic components. Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details. WWII German Photo Albums x 2 850 Superb Photos Multiple Pics of TIGER TANKS
Hi and welcome to my auctions. I specialise in aviation, maritime, military and militaria reference books aimed at model makers, collectors and enthusiasts. I try and list at least once a month, so please add me to your’favourite sellers’ list. I sometimes get more than one copy of a title in stock, so if you are looking for that elusive title, please let me know. Please be aware of the current Worldwide situation. Please make allowances for potential delays both at my end, and at yours. WWII German Photo Albums x 2. Absolutely incredible collection of WWII German photos – these are from the estate of a former member of the Kampfflieger arm of the Luftwaffe, who was also an astute observer of other branches of the Wehrmacht, plus his surroundings. Hence we have just over 850 photos showing life in basic training, moving on to the campaign in France, then on to Hungary, Romania, Moldova, The Carpathian Mountains, Bessarabia and Russia and the Baltic States. By far the most interesting pages are those showing Charkov and men and vehicles on their way to Kursk, with Tiger tanks, Beutepanzer , Panzer III/IV loaded onto railway flatcars etc. There are seven photos of wrecked Tigers and probably a dozen or more of Panzer III/IV. I have received new information which has made me take another look at the Tiger photos. I believe at least two are of Michael Wittmann’s’1331′ of III Platoon of the 13th (Heavy) Company, 1. The following info is from the’Tiger Tanks’ Facebook group. T urmnummer’1333′ is visible in one image. As can be seen the first small number is a 3, originally marked just like the large 3. You can also see that the second 3 is messy and not as close to the first 3. The second picture is the same tank, which has been around for a while and you can see that the last 3 is a paint over/renumber. The same type of renumber job happened to 1311 which became 1315. The original 1333 was wrecked and used for parts. With this being said, the only tiger left is 1331 which is the tiger on the rail car in the photos. After the Winter fighting and before Kursk, there was a change/addition to the Tiger Company. Some left for other postings, so commanders from other tank companies got to step in, Wittmann being one. So it is logical that he would have one of the original tigers from the first batch. Around the time the new tigers showed up, the LAH got Luftwaffe Men and some of these became tiger co’s. Also, why would other high ranking officers, like the number two, keep his mount of 411/1311 when he could have taken a new one?? I doubt it made no difference so why switch. Now if a co died in the cupola, I might want to renumber, but I think the renumbering had to do with lower ranking co’s taking over a tank that the previous co left, such as Schutz took over 1305 after Kling was injured, I’m guessing the next co to take over that tiger was low ranking, so it got renumbered. Also Wittmann became company co when Schutz got injured and was present in 1305 on July 12th. I think the renumbering happened after Kursk when they got a hold of 5 more tigers just before handing them over. But anyway, the rail car tiger IS 1331. The other Tiger is’932′ of the SS Totenkopf. Throughout the albums there are numerous shots of staff cars, trucks and other vehicles, a couple of captured T34s. The photos end around Christmas 1944. FAIR WARNING There are virtually no aviation photos left in the albums, these having been removed. A fair few pages have been removed completely. The photos are all pasted into’home made’ albums and quite easily come away from the paper which is very old. I CAN ONLY UPLOAD 12 PHOTOS, BUT CAN SEND MORE ON REQUEST. I HAVE CHOSEN THE BEST ONES. A fascinating piece of history. The Tiger photos alone are worth a King’s ransom! PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY. I try my best to describe items accurately, and resolve any issues in a timely manner.
