1950's Topping North American Aviation USAF F-100 Super Sabre Desk Top Model
This is a listing for a vintage 1950’s Topping – North American Aviation, Inc. USAF – F-100 Super Sabre Contractors Desk Top Model with original pamphlet and original box with cardboard inserts. This plane is made of plastic and measures approximately 13 inches long with a 10 inch wingspan. It comes to you still in excellent overall condition, with no chips, breaks or cracks that I have noticed. Some of the decals show some slight signs of wear, but are overall clean and in very nice condition. Plane is also overall very clean showing only some small / slight dirt marks. Metal Pitot tube is included. Red paint on tube shows some small signs of age wear / flaking. It fits very loosely into the hole in the plane and there is a small melt mark by it. Not sure if this was the metal touching the plastic or a prior attempt to lightly glue it in place. Original stand is also included. It is also in very nice condition, showing only some minor / slight signs of age and storage wear. It looks like the clear part of the stand may have been re-glued in the past, but it is securely attached to the base and easily holds up the plane. The bottom of the stand has an very slight inscription in what looks like pencil. It says “From Dad”, so this must have been a gift. This might be removable but we did not try and left it in place for the nostalgia factor. Finally we have the small pamphlet that originally came with the plane. There is information about the plane inside and design specifics on the back. It is in overall good / very good condition, but shows the usual and expected small signs of age and storage wear. This plane would make a superb addition to any collection. Please see our pictures for details. International Buyers Please Note. This is a very interesting model that I suspect was made by Topping Models or possibly by Blaine Electronics(San Diego). The model is of a Convair 990 finished in USAF color scheme. Obviously, if your a fan of the CV-880/990 series you know that the USAF never operated the CV-990. I have been told by several major collector friends that I will go to modeler hell if I strip this. Now for the full disclosure issues. The stand pictured is NOT the original stand. I utilized one of my Wesco Models large stands and it works fine. There is a repair on the RH wing root. This repair was well done, but no putty or paint applied. The model was apparently hung from some ceiling as there were screw loops on the top and engine nacelles. With a little clean up touch up this is very displayable. Sale may end at any time as model is advertised on the Austin Texas Craigslist. DO NOT PAY UNTIL INVOICED. Air Force USAF Douglas SM-75/PGM-17A Thor Missile Desk Model from the estate of Gerald C Coleman who was a head thrust engineer at NASA who worked on many projects including the Apollo program. Along with this model I’m including a certificate awarded to him by of One hundred Thor launches and signed by the cheif Thor shooter. I’m also throwing in a pin I found with this model that’s labled Thor lift-off pin. Off a real Thor missile. I I don’t see and damage or repairs to the Thor model. This rare model is in great shape. It is just a bit dirty and the’S’ is missing on the back side of the rocket from use apparently. This thing tilts up and can even be detached from trailer. It is circa late 50s. The overall length is 17-1/4. The rocket itself is 12-3/4 tall. The base of the model reads “USAF Douglas Thor”. I’ll pack it carefully!
