This is an original late WW 2 and Korean War Mark 18 Gun sight as used in the famous F-86A Sabre Jet Fighter and the F-4U-7 Corsair. This sight is in excellent condition. The sight comes with two bulbs in the mount. I was at the National Museum of the USAF in Dayton Ohio and I saw this sight with the F-86A Sabre Jet. The F-86A was one of the first jet fighters and was very successful during the Korean War against the MIG-15. This sight was also used in the top turret of the PB4Y-2 and the P2V Neptune. It was displayed in the New England Air Museum as having been used in the F-4U-7 Corsair and the F-9 Panther. It was also used by the French flying the F4U-7 Corsair. I believe this is particular watch was issued to USAF pilots in late 1960’s to early 70’s before GG-W-113 version was introduced. This sale is for one B-47 bomber drop tank ballistic nose cones. These had an explosive charge that would deploy the parachute of the tank when dropped. These were used on the back side of the auxiliary fuel storage tanks for long range bombing missions for the B-47 and had the capability to be dropped in flight in case of emergency. In fact they were equipped with a parachute (no longer avaliable) for safe landing. I can tell you that they are constructed of a very durable aluminum alloy and are approx. As thick as a dime. These units are in really nice condition, especially considering there from 1957. These nose cones are a beautiful Piece of Cold War history. They have been used for all sorts of interesting projects, my favorite of which was probably the hanging lamp shades used in Restaurants, Bars, and Man Cave s. (Please s ee second and third photo) Excellent conversation piece. Please note: Sale is not for the hanging lamp shown in second and third photo. It is just an example of what they can be used for.
