Vintage-1980’s CAF pre-Commemorative era name-change, when it was called Confederate Air Force. This is an extremely rare set of senior-pilot wings (hence, the star) that requires a minimum of 2000 hours. What makes this so rare is that it is sterling silver, while most are made of more common metals. Clearly visible Esco Sterling hallmark stamped on reverse.
Authentic 1984 Ghost Squadron Pin – Commemorative Air Force (CAF). From Flight Suit of Col. Dick Pennycook, Volunteer Flight – Nashville, TN. This is a genuine vintage Ghost Squadron wings pin issued by the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) around 1984. The pin originally came from the personal CAF flight suit (one-piece aviator-style robe) of Col. Dick Pennycook, a member of the Volunteer Flight in Nashville, Tennessee. The Ghost Squadron refers to the CAF’s renowned fleet of restored WWII-era aircraft, flown in tribute at airshows and memorial events. This pin is not a modern reproduction – it’s an authentic, vintage original, used during the 1980s when the CAF was still known as the Confederate Air Force. Vintage 1980s issue (circa 1984). Ghost Squadron wings pin. From the flight suit Volunteer Flight – Nashville TN. Genuine CAF memorabilia from the pre-2002 name change era. Excellent condition – see photos. The pin was carefully removed from a CAF flight suit that is no longer in my possession. While I don’t have a photo of the full suit, the pin is guaranteed authentic and comes directly from that uniform. This one is the real deal – tied to an actual CAF member and preserved from the 1980s, with a clear and verifiable backstory.
