The Vought F-8 Crusader was a supersonic, carrier-based jet fighter aircraft. The first prototype of the F-8 Crusader flew in March 1955, just a few months before this publication was issues. The aircraft was known as the “Last of the Gunfighters” because it was the last U. Navy fighter designed with guns as its primary weapon.
