At the big end, 13″ at the small end and 87″ long each for a combined length of 14-1/2ft. To join the 2 ends people normally either weld, or use a 1 wide aluminum strip to create a band to join the 2 ends with rivets or screws. I have been told these were used for auxiliary fuel storage for long range bombing missions for the B-47 and other long range bombers, and had the capability to be dropped in flight in case of emergency. In fact they were equipped with a parachute (no longer avaliable) for safe landing. I can tell you that they are constructed of a very durable aircraft aluminum 6061 alloy and are approx. As thick as a dime.
