WWII 9th Air Force 33rd Photo Recon Squadron Photo Lot England France Belgium. 40+ different photos, a few have some duplicates but almost all of them are different. They measure 10 X 10. I believe these were some of the photos dues to make a book about the unit, judging by the one that looks like a title page. Censor stamp is fate but its dated 1945. Really nice photos showing different departments such as Pilots, Camera Repair, Medics, Mess, etc. Many different photos of the various men in the photo recon squadron, all identified in the photos. Hi and welcome to my auctions. I specialise in aviation, maritime, military and militaria reference books aimed at model makers, collectors and enthusiasts. I try and list at least once a month, so please add me to your’favourite sellers’ list. I sometimes get more than one copy of a title in stock, so if you are looking for that elusive title, please let me know. Please be aware of the current Worldwide situation. Please make allowances for potential delays both at my end, and at yours. WWII German Photo Albums x 2. Absolutely incredible collection of WWII German photos – these are from the estate of a former member of the Kampfflieger arm of the Luftwaffe, who was also an astute observer of other branches of the Wehrmacht, plus his surroundings. Hence we have just over 850 photos showing life in basic training, moving on to the campaign in France, then on to Hungary, Romania, Moldova, The Carpathian Mountains, Bessarabia and Russia and the Baltic States. By far the most interesting pages are those showing Charkov and men and vehicles on their way to Kursk, with Tiger tanks, Beutepanzer , Panzer III/IV loaded onto railway flatcars etc. There are seven photos of wrecked Tigers and probably a dozen or more of Panzer III/IV. I have received new information which has made me take another look at the Tiger photos. I believe at least two are of Michael Wittmann’s’1331′ of III Platoon of the 13th (Heavy) Company, 1. The following info is from the’Tiger Tanks’ Facebook group. T urmnummer’1333′ is visible in one image. As can be seen the first small number is a 3, originally marked just like the large 3. You can also see that the second 3 is messy and not as close to the first 3. The second picture is the same tank, which has been around for a while and you can see that the last 3 is a paint over/renumber. The same type of renumber job happened to 1311 which became 1315. The original 1333 was wrecked and used for parts. With this being said, the only tiger left is 1331 which is the tiger on the rail car in the photos. After the Winter fighting and before Kursk, there was a change/addition to the Tiger Company. Some left for other postings, so commanders from other tank companies got to step in, Wittmann being one. So it is logical that he would have one of the original tigers from the first batch. Around the time the new tigers showed up, the LAH got Luftwaffe Men and some of these became tiger co’s. Also, why would other high ranking officers, like the number two, keep his mount of 411/1311 when he could have taken a new one?? I doubt it made no difference so why switch. Now if a co died in the cupola, I might want to renumber, but I think the renumbering had to do with lower ranking co’s taking over a tank that the previous co left, such as Schutz took over 1305 after Kling was injured, I’m guessing the next co to take over that tiger was low ranking, so it got renumbered. Also Wittmann became company co when Schutz got injured and was present in 1305 on July 12th. I think the renumbering happened after Kursk when they got a hold of 5 more tigers just before handing them over. But anyway, the rail car tiger IS 1331. The other Tiger is’932′ of the SS Totenkopf. Throughout the albums there are numerous shots of staff cars, trucks and other vehicles, a couple of captured T34s. The photos end around Christmas 1944. FAIR WARNING There are virtually no aviation photos left in the albums, these having been removed. A fair few pages have been removed completely. The photos are all pasted into’home made’ albums and quite easily come away from the paper which is very old. I CAN ONLY UPLOAD 12 PHOTOS, BUT CAN SEND MORE ON REQUEST. I HAVE CHOSEN THE BEST ONES. WWII Identified 9th Air Force Pilots Uniform With Photo

Penning, a Silver Star, Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross recipient. The uniform itself is in great shape. A few small moth nips here and there, but it displays wonderfully. The wings are pin back and marked Sterling for Sterling silver. The ribbon bar is a clutch back type, but missing his silver stat ribbon. There was a silver star ribbon in the pocket when I got it, so I took that to mean he simply never got a chance to add it to his ribbon bar. The only significant damage that I can find is the right hand U. Collar brace is missing its second clutch. I tried to show this in the picture, but it appears someone repainted this at some point, but replacing the clutch with a hook of some sort. It is not noticeable when on display, but I thought it was worth mentioning. The belt is also missing from the uniform, sadly. Once again, it would appear he did not get a chance to sew these on. Pennings name does not appear in the uniform anywhere, but as the article was with it when I found it, I find it hard to believe its anyone elses. The article states that Penning was a flight commander, flying Thunderbolts with the 9th Air Force Fighter-Bomber Group. The article mentions that his thunderbolt was dubbed Mary Fay III after his wife. Not sure why the III is at the end, perhaps he had multiple aircraft throughout his service. The article also states he received the Purple Heart, Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Medal with 15 Oak Leaf Clusters. Fair to say, this man saw some combat. This is a really phenomenal uniform and would make a great addition to any collection. It has held a special place in mine for many years and I hope it will find a place in someone yours.
