Vtg WWII Officers Open Mess Ceremonial Silver Punch Bowl Ernest Harmon Air Force
This is a rare ceremonial Officer’s Open Mess silver plated punch bowl by Wm Rodgers and Son. It is from Ernest Harmon Air Force Base in Stephenville Newfoundland Canada which opened in 1941 and closed in 1966. The Stephenville base was renamed the Ernest Harmon Air Force Base on June 23, 1948 and was the largest US military air command outside the US servicing virtually all North Atlantic air cargo and bombing wings. The bowl is inscribed Officers’ Open Mess E. And is believed to have been used during the renaming ceremony in 1948. It measures 13″ in diameter and 10″ high weighing 7 lbs. It is in very good condition with some denting and scratches around the edge and slight bending in the ornate rim. It has not been polished and has tarnish from age.
