This is an original USAF F-4 Phantom Pilot’s PCU-15/16 Parachute Harness with Lumbar Pad containing the personnel Lowering Strap. This harness is in excellent condition with all the buckles and straps intact. It has the lumbar pad attached that has the PCU-10/P personnel lowering strap assembly. On the side is a strobe light in its container. On the front is the CRU-60/P oxygen mask regulator mount. The lumbar pad is dated 1985. Reproduction ww2 RAF harnessuit detachable seat parachute pack. This is nice reproduction detachable parachute pack that was attached to the combined and seat type harness suits. This pack is made from original RAF parachute parts. The main pack is an original post war dated parachute pack. It is the same pattern as a wartime pack. We have adapted it to the detachable pattern. A reproduction attachment strap and hooks has been made and fitted. The ripcord and conduit are original RAF parachute items, but the D ring holder part is a new made piece. The pack has an original set of pack bungees and the set is completed with an original seat type parachute cushion. The pack is empty and is just packed out with foam for display. The pack displays very well and you can see in one of the last photos that it does fit onto a harness suit. (THE HARNESS SUIT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS SALE, JUST THE DETACHABLE PACK IS FOR SALE). It would be ideal for completing a harness display. Overall a lovely detachable pack, ideal for a ww2 RAF musuem aircrew display, RAF collection or reinactor display. WW2 RAF/RCAF Irvin manufactured observer/chest type parachute pack. Lovely parachute pack as used by bomber aircrew for attachment to the observer/chest type harnesses. This example is a Canadian made example and is copiously labeled and stamped with IAC marks for “Irvin air chute”. It appears to be in unused condition but is stamped with matching serial number to the inspection booklet indicating it was used and issued. Unfortunately there is no canopy fitted or packed and the pack is currently filled with foam for display. The pack is complete otherwise with all hardware, the original attachment loops and plates, D-ring pull handle and complete set of pack bungees. The pack is dated “OCT 20 1942″ with similar packing dates on the inspection card. Overall a lovely pack, ideal for a ww2 RAF musuem aircrew display, RAF collection or reinactor display. Manufactured by GQ Parachute Co Ltd of Woking, Great Britain. Dated 1st & 31st December 1940. Early Dual Purpose type with provision for clip-on seat or chest type parachute packs. Manufactured from heavy olive drab cotton with twin front zip opening and zipped pockets. The suit is in very good condition; the material is clean and without wear or damage. Complete with the detachable fabric stole that would contain the inflatable stole (bladder). Both inflatable stole and the actual harness are not present (the latter of which never ever turn up). Excellent large Air Ministry marked label. A superb piece of kit and useful for filling a mannequin as it deletes the need for a separate parachute harness and mae-west. The 8th Air Force was the most potent arm of American air power during WW2, tasked with the strategic bombing campaign against Germany. Flying B-17 and B-24 heavy bombers with P-51 Mustang fighter escorts, the “Mighty Eighth” swept the vaunted Luftwaffe from the skies in epic air battles over Occupied Europe. By the end of 1944, the 8th Air Force was using 4 different Quick Attachable Chest (QAC) parachute harnesses and at least 5 types of chest packs. A mistake in pairing a harness with the proper pack could prove fatal, necessitating the use of two color coded groups (red and yellow) for sure identification of matching components at a glance. These QAC chest packs in either “red group” or “yellow group” were worn by 8th Air Force pilots and air crews on their perilous missions to knock out German industry. This US Army AAF WW2 8TH AIR FORCE PILOT “YELLOW GROUP” QAC A-4 CHEST PARACHUTE PACK is in very good condition, MISSING THE CANOPY, having been filled with bubble wrap for display, and with the “male” portion of the right “lift-the-dot” of the middle front flap having not been pushed all the way through the “female” portion, rendering it difficult to manipulate and thus non-functional, some fraying under the “female” portion of the left “lift-the-dot” of that middle front flap, also rendering it difficult to manipulate and thus non-functional, some scattered small surface tears around the back. Some scattered patina to the metal hardware throughout. And with some scattered fading, dark soiling, and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the pack is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough khaki/OD canvas construction. Most interestingly, it boasts the scarce rigger added (thus making it a 2nd pattern) yellow painted 5 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ strip of canvas sewn to the middle front flap, carries the nomenclature, “TYPE A-4 PARACHUTE”, and its maker, the famous IRVING AIR CHUTE CO. “, stamped at bottom, and is dated “AUG 9 1944 at top. The pack sports the classic large metal “D” ring pull at the right front, features all of the original bungee cords and metal hardware throughout, and bears fully intact thick khaki/OD canvas web carry handles at the sides and top. It retains the original inspection/packing booklet inside the pocket at back, with a late 1944 entries for Mitchel Field in New York, and is a fine example of a very rare, original. An early WW2 US Army Air Force issue 1942 dated Irvin Air Chutes seat pack parachute S-1 with the early bayonet fasteners that proved unreliable and were replaced by snap hooks. In very used condition it shows use and was assigneed to Maj H. P Neal of the th base unit in Memphis Tennessee. The rip handle is chrome, the back pad is the early pear shaped style and this has the rare rubber sponge seat cushion with inflation valave. It there but pretty rough as seen in the pictures.
