Listed for sale is this vintage B-11 Air Force Jacket with Alpaca hood. Insignia on one sleeve of jacket reads: Army Air Forces (A in Army has faded). This extreme weather cotton sateen jacket is size 38 and is fleece lined throughout body and arms. The original clothing label reads Type B-11, Specification No. Military clothing contractor is Dann Clothing Co. Bottom portion of label reads Property Air Forces, US Army. My research shows that Dann Clothing was one of the WWII clothing contractors for the government. The Army Air Forces was created in June 1941 to provide the air arm a greater autonomy in which to expand more efficiently, to provide a structure for the additional command echelons required by a vastly increased force, and to end an increasingly divisive administrative battle within the Army over control of aviation doctrine and organization that had been ongoing since the creation of an aviation section within the U. Army Signal Corps in 1914 This B-11 jacket was made famous by Chuck Yeager who wore this style jacket while flying P51 Mustang escort missions in the winter of 1944 over the skies of Europe. Overall jacket is in excellent condition and shows remarkably fresh olive green color. There are two minor flaws: one is a faint whitish hard-to-see light spot area on right hand sleeve (see photo); the other is a dark 1/4 stain line on back (see photo). Close-up photos do not accurately show true olive green color. Measurements: shoulder seam to shoulder seam: 21″; underarm to underarm: 23″; bottom of collar to bottom hem: 31. Jacket has been researched and described as accurately as possible to the best of my knowledge. VTG 1940s WW2 USAAF TYPE B-9 QUILT LINED HOODED PARKA COAT B-11 US AIR FORCE 42

You are looking at an original 1940’s WW2 USAAF Type. B-9 quilt lined parka with mouton fur hood and pin box Talon zipper. It is in great condition for it’s age. There is no damage but for a couple of holes in one of the pocket bags, a fray to one of the pocket seams (can’t be seen unless peeled back) and a minor repair to one of the collar rings. There are a couple of faint stains. Two buttons are missing, including the chin strap button and there is a small split in the mouton fur. The zip works absolutely fine and the lining is good. Please see all images. There are no labels but measurements and fit indicate a 42. Please be guided by the exterior measurements. Please note the arm measurements are a little short 24 pit to pit 30 nape of collar to hem 21 1/2 shoulder to shoulder. 23 shoulder to cuff. 19 1/2 pit to cuff. Vintage WWII US Army Air Force Type B-11 Flying PARKA, Sz 40, 100% Original, EUC

The Army name for this heavy coat is Jacket, Winter, Flying, Type B-11, Spec 3171. It was made by MODA COAT CO. Property Air Forces U. The Army Air Forces painted symbol is clearer than most of the ones I found out there and really makes this piece. The zipper pull is intact and the suspenders are also there! From researching this coat I can tell you it is way better than most of the examples I could find. Please see condition description for full detail. We believe is also called Flying Parka. It is a heavy coat that weighs 5 1/2 lbs un-boxed (just the coat), with a thick lining for the body of the jacket and the inside of the sleeves, mouton inside the hood. The inside of the chin strap is also lined. The zipper is Conmar. The parka has, we believe, the original draw string and front buttons. The cuffs have the original straps. The 4 pockets (2 upper sides, 2 bottom) have olive green wool lining and they are all clean and with no damages. The size is 40. Actual measurements, when flat: 25″ across the chest, pit to pit; 26″ from shoulder seam to edge of cuff; 21″ shoulder to shoulder across the front of the jacket; 32″ from collar seam to hem along the back. Please notice that those figures may indicate the parka is very roomy, but bear in mind this is men’s size 40, medium, as it has a thick lining all inside, including the sleeves, making the actual room inside the jacket less than what those numbers might suggest. Three day listing so don’t miss out! The jacket shell is in great shape. Nice even OD color. Very minor saying that you have to look for. Some wear to the cuffs and a small bit of rubbing to the edge of the fur on the hood. Shell has no holes, rips or tears. All buttons, zippers, straps and buckles are intact and function and look great. Liner is in fantastic shape with Nicole loft to the fur. Interior arm gussets are in great shape. All pocket liners are intact with no holes. Very sharp spec label on the interior. All I all the perfect jacket for a great display. Pleas see my other items. This is a WWII US Army Air Forces B-11 Flight jacket. It is a size 36 regular, hood chord has been replaced and has a couple of stains, but in overall great condition.
