A distinguished command pilot with over 3,000 flying hours and 191 combat missions in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam era. General Hayes earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit, and multiple Air Medals while serving in key roles, including: – Flight commander, 416th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Bien Hoa AB, Republic of Vietnam (1966) – Vice Commander, 7th Air Force – Vice Commander, U. Air Force Tactical Fighter Weapons Center (Nellis AFB, NV) – his final assignment Patches like this one were earned through actual service and flying with the respective unit or command. Offered for sale is this clean example of a patched 1957 Lion Uniform USAF MA-1 flight jacket made in Japan by Buzz Ricksons. Hallmark quality and accuracy as expected from BR. The jacket is clean throughout, except for a few darned moth holes in the wool knits by previous owner- they are very hard to spot, and I trust the new owner will feel the same. Measurements provided below, but keep in mind this jacket has a relatively thick pile lining so fits much trimmer than the chest measurement suggests. Im generally as sz 40-42 in jackets (22-23 pit-to-pit), and this fits me perfectly. Measurements, jacket laid absolutely flat. Length (base of collar to base of waist knit): 24.5. Sleeves (shoulder seem to end of cuff knit): 25.5. Chest (armpit seam to armpit seam): 25.
