This sale is for one B-47 bomber drop tank ballistic nose cones. These had an explosive charge that would deploy the parachute of the tank when dropped. These were used on the back side of the auxiliary fuel storage tanks for long range bombing missions for the B-47 and had the capability to be dropped in flight in case of emergency. In fact they were equipped with a parachute (no longer avaliable) for safe landing. I can tell you that they are constructed of a very durable aluminum alloy and are approx. As thick as a dime. These units are in really nice condition, especially considering there from 1957. These nose cones are a beautiful Piece of Cold War history. They have been used for all sorts of interesting projects, my favorite of which was probably the hanging lamp shades used in Restaurants, Bars, and Man Cave s.
