USAF Gentex HGU-55 Fighter Pilot Combat Edge Helmet, Oxygen Mask, Comms Mic

It includes the visor, visor cover, mask, mic, hose. It has the liner, which can be washed, along with the padded insert. It also has special ear cups to reduce ambient noise. The ridges on the helmet where you would put the visor are special as well to accommodate pilots wearing glasses or who wanted more room in the helmet between the visor and their face. Along the side of the helmet, the extra hose is for the combat edge which adds air from the aircraft’s oxygen system to a bladder in the back of the helmet (included) to stop the mask from drooping at extremely high g forces (this helmet has been to 9 Gs in an F-16). As G’s increase, the bladder fills with air holding the mask tightly to your face. It also increased airflow/pressure through the mask to supply the pilot with more air during high Gs. Most of the helmets I have seen for sale are from life support/chamber use and have no flying history to them or they are non-flying copies. The hoses, mask, mic are in surprisingly good condition. The helmet itself shows some age as you can see in the photos. This helmet is in the original state from my last flight in an F-16. Nothing has been added or removed since my last flight. All the inspection stickers are real, the bayonets work perfectly to attach the mask to the helmet and the thread tacking the bayonets to the mask are in good condition. There are a few signs of rust on the chin strap adjustment buckle that could be cleaned. This is the real thing. Please let me know if you have any questions. The Condition is “Used”. USAF HGU-55/P Combat Edge Jet Helmet MBU-20/P Oxygen Mask & Anti-G Suit Named

In excellent lightly used condition as seen in the pictures. I bought this directly from Margaret “Peggy” Matarese retired USAF Colonel who served from 1982 thru 2012. The G suits are size small regular and the helmet is probably small. I do not want to rip out the lining to see what size it is. The oxygen mask is size small narrow. She told me she transferred many times and seen many different bases. She was connected with many fighter squadrons from Japan Korea Germany and others. Her husband retired a Colonel too but he has passed away. This would be a very nice display lot with history. I read that only 3% of these flight helmets were women’s. Colonel Matarese graduated cum laude from the University of California at San Diego with a B. In Biochemistry and Cellular Biology. She was awarded a Medical Doctorate degree from the University of California at San Diego School of Medicine in 1986 and was commissioned a Captain in the U. Air Force under the Health Professions Scholarship Program in June 1986. She completed a residency in Family Practice at David Grant USAF Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base, California in 1989. Following this residency, she served as Chief, Family Practice Clinic for the 50th Tactical Fighter Wing Hospital at Hahn, Air Base, Germany and then as a Squadron Medical Element Flight Surgeon for the 512th Fighter Squadron, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. During this assignment, she supported missions in Turkey, Angola, Morocco, Tunisia, Slovenia and Bosnia. In 1997, Colonel Matarese completed a dual residency in Aerospace Medicine and Occupational Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base, Texas and then served as Commander, 89th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. She then served as commander of the 56th Medical Operations Squadron at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, as commander of the 8th Medical Group at Kunsan AB, Korea, and as commander of the 374th Medical Group at Yokota AB, Japan. She subsequently served as command flight surgeon, Air Mobility Command at Scott AFB, Illinois and as Chief, Aerospace Operations for the Air Force Surgeon General. Most recently, she was assigned as the Deputy Assistant Surgeon General for Health Care Operations and the Commander of the Air Force Medical Operations Agency.
