This patch is unique in that the only person that could wear this patch was the wing Commander & Ops Commander. General Hayes earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit, and multiple Air Medals while serving in key roles, including: – Flight commander, 416th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Bien Hoa AB, Republic of Vietnam (1966) – Vice Commander, 7th Air Force – Vice Commander, U. Air Force Tactical Fighter Weapons Center (Nellis AFB, NV) – his final assignment Patches like this one were earned through actual service and flying with the respective unit or command.
