Here is a chance to own a hard to find early Vietnam SRU-21P snap pocket survival vest loaded with original survival items. The signal kit is dated 1966 and it’s rare to find one from this era as is the butane survival lighter. The strobe light has the protective cap on the switch which is usually missing, and has the flash guard and battery present. Also included is the assembly drawing sheet showing the vest and items, it’s 9×12 as described in the manual. According to this sheet the vest is complete except for items noted missing to include the revolver. The RT-10 survival radio is complete with a battery, although the battery is a later date as I suspect this vest would have stayed in service after the war and the battery replaced. The vest has a nice clear tag, most tags are missing on these, vest also shows inspector’s stamp and on the back a stencil marked “V-11″ approx. 1 tall which I believe is a unit marking. There is no evidence of a holster ever being sewn to the vest, a lot of pilots used shoulder holsters so the pistol could be worn without the vest. I do not see any rips, tears or damage to the vest, all snaps and zippers are good, radio pocket is correct for the RT-10 radio, what looks like a sewing repair to the pocket is where the radio lanyard is sewn, it is not a repair, the pockets also contain lanyard strings so equipment won’t get lost. The survival kit is missing the prescription medication, a nice kit with the “tacky glue” still retaining the kit items. Only one small pocket is empty on the vest and that would have contained the revolver ammunition, not included. Vest contents according to the drawing that are present: Radio set RT-10, assembly instruction sheet 9×12, fire starter(butane lighter), mirror, bag water, knife pocket, net gill fishing, compass lensatic, tourniquet, survival kit individual, signal kit, light marker distress, vest sru-21p and flash guard. One interesting note is that the soldier in the manual is shown wearing a snap pocket version of the vest, most vests found are of the velcro closure type, these snap pockets vests are not easy to find.
