This is the landing gear knob from the B-52 Stratofortress with tail # 57-183. The B-52 is an amazing aircraft. First flown in the early 1950’s, it is not only still in service, but it is the backbone of our nuclear strike force and expected to remain in service with the US Air Force until 2050. An aircraft that remains not only in service but relevant for 100 years is unheard of. This knob is on the landing gear lever which is located on the instrument panel in front of the pilot on the right hand side. The level controls the deploying and stowing of the landing gear upon takeoff and landing. The landing gear knob from the B-52 F model is very unique and RARE. Vintage World War II. German Incendiary Bomb Tail Fin. Genuine WWII era, German B1E 1kg Incendiary Bomb tail fin. The bomb would have consisted of a cylindrical body, made of magnesium alloy, and filled with thermite, an incendiary compound. To which was riveted the three finned steal tail that you see here. These bombs did not explode, but on impact, the needle in igniter was driven into a small percussion cap, which in turn ignited the thermite filling, and ultimately the alloy case in itself, producing enough heat that was sufficient to melt steel. The tail fin is good condition for its year, with some signs of age and related wear. Fast dispatch, expertly packaged. Sent via a tracked courier service. 2 Bomb Torpedo Tail Sections / Conical Bomb Fin Assembly. Height: approximately 30.75 inches or 78 cm. Top Diameter: approximately 10.375 inches or 26cm. The best guess I could get for dating the tail sections was possible 1950’s or 60’s based on construction, but I could be wrong. I was also unable to identify the exact tail section they are from. They are now as you see, a medium to dark green with the white stars. The stars painted on them are not perfect and rust and wear are still present on the tail sections. The inside is not the high gloss found on the exterior and if you look at the included images you should be able to see the where rust is present. You will also see the interior condition. They look pretty good now and could be used as is for decoration or for a project such as a table. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
