We are offering for sale a Vintage green military trunk foot locker with a military history and ties to the now closed Cason Long Military Academy in New Bloomfield Pa. To McCord Airforce Base Tacoma Washington stenciled in black on large white painted square on top.. Information stenciled in black on the bottom where it has five small feet.. Chest has two metal drop handles on each end and a metal drop handle for carrying like a suitcase.. A hasp for a pad lock and two draw latches for security.. Interior is clean and odor free with a divided tray.. See pics for details.. CONDITION:: Overall good used vintage condition.. Shows some appropriate use wear and age with one tray support missing.. The 8th Air Force was the most potent arm of American air power during WW2, tasked with the strategic bombing campaign against Germany. Flying B-17 and B-24 heavy bombers with P-51 Mustang fighter escorts, the “Mighty Eighth” swept the vaunted Luftwaffe from the skies in epic air battles over Occupied Europe. By the end of 1944, the 8th Air Force was using 4 different Quick Attachable Chest (QAC) parachute harnesses and at least 5 types of chest packs. A mistake in pairing a harness with the proper pack could prove fatal, necessitating the use of two color coded groups (red and yellow) for sure identification of matching components at a glance. These QAC chest packs in either “red group” or “yellow group” were worn by 8th Air Force pilots and air crews on their perilous missions to knock out German industry. This US Army AAF WW2 8TH AIR FORCE PILOT “YELLOW GROUP” QAC A-4 CHEST PARACHUTE PACK is in very good condition, MISSING THE CANOPY, having been filled with bubble wrap for display, and with the “male” portion of the right “lift-the-dot” of the middle front flap having not been pushed all the way through the “female” portion, rendering it difficult to manipulate and thus non-functional, some fraying under the “female” portion of the left “lift-the-dot” of that middle front flap, also rendering it difficult to manipulate and thus non-functional, some scattered small surface tears around the back. Some scattered patina to the metal hardware throughout. And with some scattered fading, dark soiling, and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the pack is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough khaki/OD canvas construction. Most interestingly, it boasts the scarce rigger added (thus making it a 2nd pattern) yellow painted 5 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ strip of canvas sewn to the middle front flap, carries the nomenclature, “TYPE A-4 PARACHUTE”, and its maker, the famous IRVING AIR CHUTE CO. “, stamped at bottom, and is dated “AUG 9 1944 at top. The pack sports the classic large metal “D” ring pull at the right front, features all of the original bungee cords and metal hardware throughout, and bears fully intact thick khaki/OD canvas web carry handles at the sides and top. It retains the original inspection/packing booklet inside the pocket at back, with a late 1944 entries for Mitchel Field in New York, and is a fine example of a very rare, original. This was the main chute, as part of the comeplete T5 Harness system. Not sure of the exact history of this item, as it came to me from a large collectors estate. Dated January 1945, this Parachute & Bag is in VERY GOOD condition, showing normal age and wear from storage. Slight tears and wear to the bag, but nothing that detracts. The silk parachute is included… But it appears to have been cut from the bag itself. The interesting feature is that though it was made during the war, it canopy features a “Made in France” stamp? Features the rip cord and handle, as well as all the original cloth labelling and ink stamps. It also comes complete with the original inspection card, that is dated 1945. It needs to be re-packed and someone took it apart at one time. Bungees are also missing. A PERFECT addition to any collection or display! TERMS OF SALE. Complete 1943 Dated US 9th Air Force Officers Uniform 42 Chest. A complete uniform comprising Tunic, Trousers, Shirt, Tie and Crusher Cap to a Major in the 9th US Air Force. What immediately stands out is the high quality of cloth and tailoring employed resulting in a very smart appearance. The Tunic is a large size with approximately a 42 chest. Overall condition is very good with no apparent damage but missing the waist belt. Inside, the Tunic is part lined and this has become unstitched in places. The label states simply Regulation Army Officers Uniform and the owners name remains partly discernible as W. Although the insignia is to a medical Major dentist, these tunics are of course generic allowing the collar insignia to be changed to reflect any roll. Both Shirt and Tie are in very good undamaged condition, the Shirt having a collar size of about 16 and retaining its manufactures label, Jayson Dry Clean Only. The right sleeve shows the four service bars matching the Tunic. The Cap is a good size 7 3/8 and whilst the appearance and exterior are very good, the sweatband has disintegrated. The Trousers (or Pinks) are very interesting. In very good condition with no damage they were made in the UK in 1943 by Montague Burton and retain two good clear labels. With a 35 waist they match the frame of the Tunic well and were made with a leg length of 35, now shortened to 31 with 2 let down still available. Still attached are an excellent sent of issue braces. The 9th Air Force arrived in the UK from the Mediterranean in 1943 to participate in the invasion and became the largest Air Force of all time with 3500 aircraft of all types from Gliders to bombers. Medical officers of all types from the 9th Air Force accompanied the airborne troops on D Day. A truly impressive uniform in a very good large size.
