Air Force 1 Aircraft (Series 2) A00112B Boeing B-29 Superfortress Diecast Model USAAF 509th Composite Group, #44-86292 Enola Gay, Hiroshima, Japan, August 6th 1945, w/1:60 “Little Boy” bomb. History was made on August 6th 1945 when the Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb, code-named “Little Boy”, that destroyed the Japanese city of Hiroshima. An eleven man crew flew the mission from Tinian Island led by Colonel Paul Tibbetts who named the plane after his mother. Although disassembled in 1960 the plane is now fully restored and on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC. This 1:144 scale, diecast replica beautifully depicts “Enola Gay, ” the most sophisticated, propeller-driven World War II bomber that dropped the first atomic bomb, “Little Boy, ” on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Collectors will marvel at details which include rotating props, rubber tires, glazed windows, intricate landing gear, and a metal stand for in-flight display of the plane heading towards its mission. Designed to meet an American need for a very heavy, long range bomber, the B-29 Superfortress was first flown on September 21st, 1942. The USAAF’s intent in building the B-29 was to have an aircraft that was capable of winning the war through sheer destructive power-by destroying the enemy homeland. This mid-wing bomber had four 3,500 horsepower Pratt & Whitney engines. It required a crew of 10 specialists and gunners and had a sophisticated weapons system that included guns mounted in electrically powered turrets in the dorsal, ventral and tail positions. The guns were operated by internal periscope systems. Air Force 1 Aircraft (Series 2). The Air Force 1 range presents detailed, ready-made diecast models of military aircraft. Listing is for (1) cap as shown. The basis for my determination that this is a WWII-era cap is as follows. The eagle insignia has a height of 2 3/4 and made of pewter, this eagle was favored by pilots during the war. The buttons holding on the strap are a pre-1955 version, going back to the 1930’s. The cap has a card holder on the inside. The card (which would be very difficult to remove, looks as if someone tried) bears the name Harold Leroy Graybill, Lt. Colonel, United States Air Force. A bit of research led me to a distinguished veteran with the aforementioned name (He passed away in 2004 in the same small city I live in) who, according to his obituary, flew C-47’s during WWII. Still, there is a possibility that the cap is post-war, as Lt. Graybill served his country for 30 years. I did polish the Eagle, there is a line between a nice patina and just plain blacked-out. Is this case, the later was true. Other than that I used a clothing brush to remove lint, and used a bit of leather lotion on the strap and headband. Hats off (no pun) to Lt. Graybill for his distinguished service to our country. I hope his cap finds a place in a collection befitting its historical significance. Please review all photos carefully. Twice weekly, typically on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Items are professionally packaged and insured when applicable. Addresses (50 states) and Canada. I will do my best to resolve any issues and make things right.

Rare pair of vintage 6913th Electronic Security Squadron glass beer mugs featuring the unit’s Black Cat insignia and “Ready to Fight” motto. The 6913 ESS was a U. Air Force Electronic Security Command unit stationed in Augsburg, West Germany, during the Cold War. Its Black Cat emblem was officially approved in 1980, and the squadron remained active until 1991. An extensive online search found no exact examples of either decorated mug and no other matching pair, making these exceptionally difficult pieces of 6913 ESS unit memorabilia to locate. Both are heavy clear-glass 0.5-liter mugs with multicolor squadron emblems, gold-tone rims, and substantial handles. They are two different glass styles and are being offered together as a coordinated pair. Taller ribbed mug: approximately 7 inches tall. Both are in good used vintage condition with no noted chips or cracks. Each has approximately 25-50% age-related loss to the gold-tone rim decoration. Please inspect all photos closely for the exact condition. An outstanding display pair for collectors of U. Air Force, Electronic Security Command, Cold War intelligence, Augsburg military, or squadron memorabilia. Please see all photos for details.
